Volunteer Screening – Immunization and Accessibility

Policy:

  • Volunteers will also comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act.
  • All volunteers and auxiliary members working within the hospital must:
    • provide proof of immunization for measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) by vaccine record or laboratory testing;
    • the date of their last tetanus shot;
    • the results of recent TB testing.
  • Volunteers are expected to comply with the hospital policy for receiving the annual flu shot.
  • Volunteer members will also document the needs of any member who requires assistance during a hospital emergency or evacuation. The emergency response team of the hospital will ensure assistance is provided as required.

What specifically does this mean for working with the Auxiliary?

  • Auxiliary members who work within the hospital in volunteer positions with a possibility of contact with patients must comply with the immunization policy. This includes positions working in the Gift Shop and at the Information Desk.
  • Τhe Auxiliary will maintain secure/private records that detail each member’s immunization status
  • A member’s immunization status will not preclude them from attendance at meetings or events held within the hospital.
  • Unprotected volunteers will have to stay away from the hospital if there is an outbreak
  • Volunteers who are sick with flu must remain off a minimum of 5 days from the date of onset or until symptoms subside
