During Your Stay

Blood Tests and X-rays

All hospital patients are asked to stay in their rooms between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. each morning so that technicians can do any ordered tests. If you are not in your room and miss a scheduled test, then your treatment may be delayed.

Meals & Your Diet

Our Food Services staff provides patients nutritious meals that are an important part of your recovery. The hospital dietitian works closely with our patients/families and multidisciplinary team to ensure your nutritional needs are met. We will endeavor to accommodate special diets. If you have any concerns about your diet while in hospital, or what you should eat at home, ask your nurse to contact the dietitian.

Please be sure to indicate to your nurse any food allergies, food intolerances or special diet needs.

The Coffee Den, the hospital's cafeteria located next to the kitchen on the hospital's lower level, serves meals and snacks to staff and visitors. The menu offers a variety of foods in a relaxing atmosphere.

Vending machines with snacks and cold beverages are also available in the hospital.

With notice, the Food Services staff can provide an additional meal for any family member at a reasonable cost. Please contact the Food Services Department directly or through your nurse to make arrangements.

Valuables

You are fully responsible for any valuables or items that you choose to keep with you at the bedside. Please leave large sums of money or valuable jewelry at home for safekeeping.

Abuse/Harassment

The Hospital has a zero tolerance policy regarding abuse and harassment. Abusive behaviour of any kind will not be tolerated. The efficiency of our staff and the health of our patients, family members and friends are helped by an environment where individuals are respected and everyone is treated in a courteous way. Staff members and volunteers can expect to work in an environment free of discrimination and any form of abuse. Any incident of sexual harassment, physical or verbal abuse must be reported to the appropriate authority.

Alcohol & Drugs

All drugs, including alcohol, must be ordered by your physician and given to you under the supervision of hospital staff.

Smoking Policy

CPDMH promotes a healthy safe environment for anyone who works at, is admitted to or visits any of our sites by banning smoking on the property. Employees, patients, and visitors are not permitted to smoke within CPDMH buildings or on CPDMH exterior grounds. The hospital recommends that all patients and employees who are addicted to the use of tobacco products undertake a comprehensive smoking cessation program. Existing regulations including Federal, Provincial and Municipal statutes are enforced.

Allergies

During the admission process, it is very important for you to tell your nurse about any allergies that you may have (e.g. food, medication, tape, plastic, metals, etc.). If you have forgotten to mention your allergies during your admission, please tell your nurse as soon as possible afterwards.

We share our air, so please keep others in mind. Our Hospital policy is a "no scent" policy including perfume, cologne, aftershave, hair spray and deodorant. We urge you to respect this policy because these products can cause severe allergic reactions in some of our patients, volunteers and staff members.

Discharge Planning

When you are admitted to the hospital, the multidisciplinary team members will discuss your treatment plan and potential discharge issues with you. You may need the support of specific community resources or long-term care, once you are discharged from our Hospital. Arrangements for these services can be made prior to your discharge.

Our Discharge Planning Nurse helps to plan the services that you may need when you leave the hospital. This Nurse may visit with you during your hospital stay to discuss any concerns that you or your family may have about your needs once you go home.

The Case Manager from the Access Centre for Community Care (ACCC), who has an office in the Hospital, may also meet with you to understand exactly what home care services you may need when you return home.

Discharge time is at 10 a.m. daily.
