Message from the Chair of the Board

HOSPITAL

The Carleton Place and District Memorial hospital has been a cornerstone of our community for over half a century. It has served us all, not only as a provider of health care, but also as a reminder of the frailty of life as exemplified by those who fought and lost their lives in WW I and WW II, after whom the hospital was dedicated.

With Carleton Place, and our surrounding catchment area, now undergoing a rapid increase in population, it has become necessary for us to move forward with plans to develop a new and larger hospital to service all our needs. Certainly this project will be the keystone of all our efforts over the coming two years and beyond. Despite the wonderful success of our current hospital as exemplified by our dedicated staff, our consistently high accreditation record and our rating as “the most efficient hospital in Ontario” in three of the last five years, our fifty five year old building simply cannot keep pace with modern medicine so it is with this goal in mind of being able to serve you closer to home in a newer facility with expanded health care services that we have embarked on this new, exciting and demanding venture.

All members of the Hospital Board thank you all for your support in the past and we look forward to your continued support in the future.

HOSPITAL FOUNDATION

The Hospital Foundation is comprised of a number of community volunteers whose sole responsibility is to raise funds for the Hospital. Simply put, without the Foundation the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital would not exist in its present form, if at all.

Over the recent fundraising campaign the Foundation has contributed over $1.5 million to the Hospital to purchase new, and much needed, equipment. Yet over the upcoming hospital redevelopment, the Foundation has once again fully endorsed the initiative and indicated its complete willingness to contribute in a very, very major way to the purchase of new, and greatly needed, equipment that is not provided by the Province.

The future of health care in our community really rests, in great part, with the Foundation and we are indeed blessed to have such a dedicated and supportive group of community leaders working on our behalf. We all need our Foundation’s continued support so I know I speak for all Board Trustees when I extend to you all a heart felt “Thank you”.

MHAUXILIARY

By always “being there” the Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital’s MHAuxiliary has contributed in a very major way to the delivery of health care in Carleton Place and the surrounding area.

Health care is an expensive business, the cost of which is far from being covered by our taxes that we pay to the province so without the efforts of the MHAuxiliary in fundraising and providing the absolutely essential “volunteers” to help us run our hospital, the delivery of health care in our area would be a mere shadow of what it is today.

The MHAuxiliary has committed to a huge initiative in support of the hospital’s redevelopment plans and this combined with the incredible assistance given to our hospital by the MHAuxiliary volunteers makes the Auxiliary’s contribution to health care in our community priceless.

To all who work so diligently as part of the MHAuxiliary the Hospital Board extends our most sincere appreciation.
