The "In Memoriam" Program
Serve the Living, Honour the Departed
A wonderful way to remember a loved one ….
When dear friends or loved ones pass on, they leave the gift of memories. The Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation's "In Memoriam" program, offers you an excellent way to remember and say "thank you" for memorable times spent together and to also help our Hospital.
We will promptly send an acknowledgement of your gift to the next of kin and supply you with a tax receipt. We do not disclose the amount of your gift to the next of kin.
If you wish to make an "In Memoriam" donation in memory of a dear friend or loved one, please contact the CPDMH Foundation Office at 257-2200 ext 856.
Bequests
A charitable bequest, or a gift through a Will, allows you to maintain your current level of financial security while leaving a lasting legacy to the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Bequests can include:
· a personal asset
· a specified amount of cash
· a percentage or portion of your estate
· the residue, or what remains after other bequests have been paid
Gifts given through your Will qualify for a tax receipt that can be claimed for up to 100% of your net income in the year you died and also 100% of your net income for the year immediately prior. Because of these tax advantages, it is often possible to make a much larger gift to the Hospital in your Will than during your lifetime without affecting the amount intended for your family. In effect, you are donating your taxes — the taxes that your estate would pay without the charitable deduction — to the Hospital.
The following general clauses have been prepared to assist you and your lawyers or other financial professionals who wish to favour the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation in your Will.
- For a specific sum of money
"I give to Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation currently of 211 Lake Ave East, Carleton Place, Ontario, K7C 1J4, the sum of $______ ."
- For a percentage of your estate
"I give to Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation currently of 211 Lake Ave East, Carleton Place, Ontario, K7C 1J4, ____% of my estate."
- For the residue of your estate once debts, taxes, administrative expenses and specific bequests have been paid.
"I give to Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation currently of 211 Lake Ave East, Carleton Place, Ontario, K7C 1J4, all (or ______%) of the residue of my estate."
Life Insurance
The Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation also welcomes gifts of life insurance.
Naming the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy provides an optimum combination of immediate and long-term tax benefits, affordability, and the satisfaction of leaving a significant sum of money to perpetuate the work we all believe in.
The amount of the gift is guaranteed and is not reduced due to taxes, probate or administrative costs. Premium payments are eligible for tax receipts; life insurance is not taxable and is distributed intact after death.
Gifts of Stock
There can be significant tax advantages in donating your stocks or mutual fund units directly to a charity like the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation, rather than selling the shares and donating the proceeds.
As a result of the 2006 Federal Budget, you now get a full exemption from any capital gains tax when you donate securities directly to a charity. You will also receive a charitable tax credit for the full value of the donation.
